Golf Simulator Room Size Checker
A home golf simulator needs a ceiling of at least 9 ft (10 ft to be comfortable), a room about 13 to 15 ft wide and 15 to 20 ft deep. Enter your room and height to see where it fits, where to put the tee, and which launch monitors and enclosures fit.

Golf simulator ceiling height
9 ft is the minimum almost every maker publishes, and 10 ft is what they recommend. TrackMan's own TrackMan 4 guide gives 9 ft as the minimum and 11 ft as optimal. Rapsodo says golfers about 5 ft 8 in and under may be fine at 9 ft, taller golfers may need 10 to 11 ft, and the ceiling should sit 6 to 9 in above the top of your swing.
Ceiling units have their own windows: TrackMan iO needs a room at least 9 ft 4 in high, Foresight's Falcon mounts 9.5 to 10.5 ft above the hitting surface, and Uneekor's overhead units are designed for 9 to 10 ft. No maker publishes a formula from golfer height, so swing your longest club in the room before you buy.
Golf simulator room dimensions by launch monitor
A launch monitor behind the ball needs 4 to 6 ft more depth than one beside the ball or on the ceiling. Radar units such as TrackMan 4, Garmin R10 and Full Swing KIT sit 6 to 10 ft behind the ball; camera units sit next to it or overhead.

Where to put the tee, the screen and the projector
Leave about 1 ft behind the screen, put the ball 10 to 12 ft in front of it, and keep 4 to 7 ft behind the ball for your swing. TrackMan and FlightScope both ask for 1 ft behind the screen; Carl's Place works its 15 ft minimum depth out as 1 + 10 + 4 ft and recommends 18 to 20 ft. The checker above adds the launch monitor's own setback when it sits behind the ball.
For the projector, Foresight says most simulator setups use a throw ratio of 0.6 to 1.0, and BenQ calls 0.69 to 0.89 the sweet spot. Throw distance is the throw ratio times the image width, so a 10 ft wide image at 0.7 needs the lens about 7 ft from the screen. Short-throw models such as BenQ's AH500ST (0.5) suit shallow rooms.
Width decides who can play: 10 ft works with the tee offset for one hand, Uneekor asks for 13 ft for full driver swings (15 ft if you are 6 ft or taller), and a bay that serves right- and left-handed golfers needs about 15 ft so the tee can sit in the middle. Once you know your driver swing speed, the simulator turns it into carry the same way.
Common questions about simulator rooms
What ceiling height do I need for a golf simulator?
At least 9 ft, and 10 ft to swing a driver comfortably. TrackMan, Uneekor, SkyTrak and TruGolf all set 9 ft as the minimum. Rapsodo says golfers taller than about 5 ft 8 in may need 10 to 11 ft.
How big a room do I need for a golf simulator?
About 10 ft high, 13 to 15 ft wide and 15 to 20 ft deep. Uneekor asks for at least 13 ft wide (15 ft if you are 6 ft or taller), and a launch monitor that sits behind the ball, such as TrackMan 4, needs about 17 to 18 ft of depth.
How far should I stand from a golf simulator screen?
Put the ball 10 to 12 ft from an impact screen. TrackMan and Uneekor both give 10 ft as the minimum and 12 ft as the better distance; radar units hitting into a net can work at 8 ft.
How the checker works
Ceiling: 9 ft minimum and 10 ft comfortable, raised to 10 and 11 ft above 5 ft 8 in following Rapsodo. Width: 10 ft minimum with an offset tee; 13 ft (15 ft from 6 ft tall) to centre it, from Uneekor; 15 ft for right- and left-handed golfers, from Uneekor's dual-handed bay and BenQ. Depth is our sum of the makers' figures: 1 ft behind the screen, 10 ft of ball flight to a screen (8 ft to a net), and 4 ft behind the ball (Carl's Place) or a 6 ft radar setback (TrackMan 4, Garmin R10); the comfortable figure uses 12 ft of flight and 7 or 8 ft behind. Every figure was read on the makers' own pages on 30 October 2026; the tables link each one.
