Golf Club Loft Chart
A standard men’s 7-iron has 27.5° to 29° of loft and a pitching wedge 42° to 42.5° on current sets from PING, Callaway, Cobra and Mizuno. The chart gives every club, men’s and women’s, read from each brand’s own spec page on 29 October 2026.

Why do lofts differ between iron sets?
Game-improvement irons have stronger (lower) lofts than players’ irons, so the same number on the sole flies further. Mizuno’s own two JPX925 sets show it: the Forged 7-iron is 30°, the Hot Metal 28°.
| Club | Hot Metal | Forged |
|---|---|---|
| 5-iron | 22° | 24° |
| 6-iron | 25° | 27° |
| 7-iron | 28° | 30° |
| 8-iron | 32.5° | 34° |
| 9-iron | 37° | 38° |
| Pitching wedge | 42° | 43° |
Compare clubs by loft, not by the number on the sole, and check carries rather than assuming: the golf club distance chart gives tour carries per club. Changing loft also changes bounce and how the lie angle reads at impact.
Wedge loft chart and wedge gapping
Space your wedges 4° to 6° apart, the same step the iron sets above use from 8-iron to pitching wedge to gap wedge. With a 42° pitching wedge that means 48°, 52° and 58°, or 48°, 54° and 60°. The 14-club bag setup planner works the lofts out from your own pitching wedge.
| Loft | Bounce (grind) |
|---|---|
| 46° | 10° (F grind) |
| 48° | 10° (F) |
| 50° | 8°, 12° (F) |
| 52° | 8°, 12° (F) |
| 54° | 8° M, 10° S, 12° D, 14° F |
| 56° | 8° M, 10° S, 12° D |
| 58° | 4° T, 8° M, 10° S, 12° D, 14° K |
| 60° | 4° T, 8° M, 10° S, 12° D, 14° K |
| 62° | 8° M |
| Loft | Bounce (grind) |
|---|---|
| 46° | 10° Mid |
| 48° | 10° Mid |
| 50° | 10° Mid |
| 52° | 10° Mid |
| 54° | 8° Low+, 10° Mid, 12° Full |
| 56° | 8° Low+, 10° Mid, 12° Full |
| 58° | 6° Low, 10° Mid, 12° Full |
| 60° | 6° Low, 10° Mid, 12° Full |
Titleist’s SM10 list also includes 58° and 60° with a 6° K grind in the later Black Vapor release. Higher bounce suits soft sand and steep swings; low bounce suits firm turf.
Common questions about loft
What is the loft of a 7-iron?
27.5° to 29° on current men’s game-improvement sets from PING, Callaway, Cobra and Mizuno, and 29.5° to 30° on women’s sets. A players’ iron is weaker: Mizuno’s JPX925 Forged 7-iron is 30°. Read from each brand’s spec page on 29 October 2026.
What loft is a pitching wedge?
42° to 42.5° in current men’s sets and 43° to 46.5° in women’s sets. That is why most sets now include a gap or approach wedge of 47° to 48° before the sand wedge.
What loft is a sand wedge?
The sand wedge that comes with an iron set is 54° to 56°. Specialty wedges are sold from 46° to 62° in 2° steps; 54° and 56° are the usual sand wedge lofts, 58° to 62° the lob wedges.
How this chart was made
Every figure was read from the manufacturer’s own product page on 29 October 2026. Titleist’s and Vokey’s pages refused our reads that day, so the SM10 lofts come from Titleist’s own media-centre release, and Titleist and TaylorMade iron sets are left out rather than guessed. Callaway’s 2025 Elyte pages were still live; its newer Quantum line was not read. Cobra’s spec tables come from its EU pages because the US pages show none. The chart is re-read when a brand replaces the model.

Check the gaps the lofts make
Lofts set the gaps on paper. Your carries show whether they work.

A fitting hypothesis only becomes a fit when the numbers back it up. Golfonaut on Apple Watch records your shots and shows your distance per club, so you can compare before and after any change to length, lie, grip, shaft or swing weight.
